Arizona Online Sports Betting

Arizona legalized sports betting and daily fantasy sports with the passages of Senate Bill 1797 and House Bill 2772, which were sent to Governor Doug Ducey’s desk for his signature on April 13, 2021. Gov. Ducey signed the historic bill on April 15.

The bill allowes for 20 total sportsbooks in the state. Commercial entities like professional sports teams can have up to ten licenses to operate mobile betting and in-person retail sportsbooks. Currently eight of these licenses have been granted. Tribal entities received the additional ten licenses to operate mobile betting and all ten licenses have been distributed. In addition to these mobile betting licenses, tribes can now accept in-person wagers on their lands under the Arizona Gaming Compact, which is separate from the mobile betting bill enacted in April 2021.

Daily Fantasy Sports and sports betting are now both live in Arizona.

How Can Players Deposit At Arizona’s Online Sportsbooks?

Deposit Methods

Top-notch online platforms like DraftKings Sportsbook present numerous different ways to fund your sports betting account. Some of the best ways to make deposits at an online sportsbook include the following:

PayPal– PayPal presents the most reliable way to get money into your mobile sports betting account. PayPal deposits go through almost 100% of the time, and you can also make withdrawals using PayPal.

Play+ Prepaid Card – Many online sportsbooks offer house-branded versions of the Play+ Prepaid card. This prepaid debit card links directly to your sportsbook account and can be loaded with funds using several different methods. Once loaded, you can move money to and from your sportsbook balance instantly using the Play+ Prepaid card.

ACH/eCheck – ACH/eCheck deposits draft an electronic check from your bank account and send it through an Automated Clearing House for approval. ACH/eCheck deposits appear in your player balance instantly if approved, but some banks don’t allow gambling-related transactions, even to a legal online sportsbook.

Skrill – Skrill functions as an eWallet, allowing you to deposit into your Skrill account using several different methods. Once you’ve loaded your eWallet, you can then deposit funds at any online sportsbook that accepts Skrill. This method sometimes involves transaction charges, however.

How Can Apple iOS Users Make Deposits?

The Apple iOS version of an online sports betting app almost always allows all of the same deposit methods included in the desktop version of the sportsbook. Apple Pay and iTunes gift cards can’t be used for deposits, however, even if you’re using the Apple iOS version of a mobile sports betting app.

How Can Android Users Make Deposits?

Much like their Apple iOS counterparts, the Android version of a mobile sports wagering app generally includes all of the same deposit options as the desktop version of the client. Android users won’t be able to use Google Play gift cards to fund a sportsbook account, however.

How Does Online Sports Betting Work In Arizona?

Now that sports betting apps have launched in Arizona, players can place several different types of wagers. Moneyline wagers are one common bet and only require players to bet on the outcome of a game: which team will win or lose?

But all sportsbooks also offer other wager types, including:

  • Totals bets, where players wager whether or not both teams’ scores combined will reach a certain threshold
  • Spread bets, where players wager whether a certain team will score above or below a point threshold
  • Parlay bets, which involve making several isolated bets together in a combined string bet for a potentially massive payout

In-play bets are also likely to be big in Arizona’s sports betting industry. In-play bets are provided by most major sportsbooks these days and they allow you to make wagers using dedicated betting markets that leverage odds that are updated on the fly by automated algorithms.

In-play betting allows experienced sports wagerers to take part in the action in a new way, especially since many major sportsbooks include live streaming. On these sports betting apps, players will be able to watch the action unfold on their mobile device and place a wager right as big plays are being made.

Just be mindful of which sportsbook you download, however; not all apps currently provide live or in-play betting.

What Are Futures Bets?

Futures bets are going to be popular in Arizona, and for good reason. These bets provide some of the highest potential payouts of all wagers since players can put their money down early and benefit from the odds being stacked against them further than usual.

Futures bets involve betting on the outcome of a future event like a tournament or championship. World Series bets are a popular example. Players will be able to place futures bets on tournament outcomes, game outcomes, and even the overall performance of certain players, such as which player will win the “MVP” award for the 2022 baseball season.

How To Place Prop Bets Using Arizona Sportsbooks

Prop or proposition bets are popular wagers to make across the country. Unlike most other bets, which revolve around betting that a team will win or lose or betting about a certain score threshold, prop bets involve wagering on a specific or isolated event in a game.

For example, popular prop bets include betting on whether a player will shoot a three-pointer in basketball, whether a player will score a touchdown in football, or whether a player will make a home run in baseball.

Prop bets are fun and flexible, especially for newcomers who may not know how to read or gauge betting lines and odds for full game outcomes or points totals.

There’s one minor quibble with Arizona’s sports wagering legislation, however. Prop bets on collegiate games will not be allowed. Fortunately, you’ll be able to place prop bets in Arizona on all other sporting events.

Arizona Sports Betting Odds

Arizona’s sports betting industry uses the same line-making algorithms and statisticians as other states. This will result in player-friendly odds with a good potential for profit no matter which side of a bet you decide to take.

For example, a typical moneyline wager (where you bet on the outcome of a single game) might have odds set at +110 for the favorite team to win the match and -110 for the underdog. In short, these odds indicate that you would need to wager $110 when betting on the favorite team to win $100 or wager $100 on the underdog team to potentially win $110.

In this way, the underdog odds for any Arizona sports match will be riskier but offer a potentially higher payout. All licensed sportsbooks in Arizona uses official league data when formulating their betting lines.

Experienced sports bettors may also wish to shop around between different sportsbooks, checking out each book’s betting lines for the same event to determine which one offers the best potential payout.

Arizona Teams Popular Among Sports Bettors

The 2023 Super Bowl will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, home of the Arizona Cardinals. All the sports betting apps and sportsbook locations will be open by then, including one inside State Farm Stadium. That will be an enormous day for Arizona sports bettors.

On that note, here are the professional sports teams in Arizona, most of which host retail sportsbooks on-site:

  • NFL’s Arizona Cardinals (State Farm Stadium)
  • MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks (Chase Field)
  • NBA’s Phoenix Suns (Footprint Center)
  • WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury (Footprint Center)
  • NHL’s Arizona Coyotes (Gila River Arena)

An MLS stadium is being built in Tempe for Phoenix Rising FC, which is trying to join the MLS. That stadium will likely also house a retail sportsbook if that happens.

The Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale hosts biannual NASCAR races, and the TPC Scottsdale hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a stop on the PGA Tour.

The following college teams are highly popular options, particularly for NCAA football and basketball betting:

  • Grand Canyon Antelopes
  • Northern Arizona Lumberjacks

All but Grand Canyon have both football and basketball programs.

Bonus And Promotions Coming In Arizona

One of the best parts of online sports betting is all the bonus offers. Here are some of the Arizona sportsbook bonuses:

  • Deposit Bonuses: Some sportsbooks will match deposits by a certain percentage up to a maximum amount. For example, BetRivers Sportsbook offers a 100% deposit bonus up to $250.
  • Risk-Free Bets: New members at a sportsbook can usually place their first bet risk-free up to a maximum amount. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona will offer a risk-free bet up to $1,000 to new members.
  • First Bet Match: Rather than refund your first bet if it loses like with the risk-free bet, some sportsbooks offer a bet match on your first wager. Win or lose, the sportsbook will match the wager by the same amount.
  • Odds Boosters: All the best online sportsbooks offer odds boosters on a variety of lines every single day. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars all offer lucrative odds boosters, including for Arizona teams.

How Can You Be Sure Legal Online Sportsbooks In Arizona Are Fair?

Regulated By The Arizona Department Of Gaming

The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) reviewed each sports betting applicant and approved licenses only to those that exhibit the highest levels of safety and security. The ADG also only promotes responsible gaming.

The state regulator has established a standard for all sportsbooks to follow. This includes housing all player funds in a separate bank account that the company cannot use for expenses.

The ADG will also audit and regulate the sports betting apps on an ongoing basis to ensure everything remains above board.

Partnered With Local Organizations

All online sportsbooks partnered with an existing name in Arizona sports or betting. Local bettors will be familiar with these organizations, providing peace of mind that doesn’t exist with illegal sites.

For example, the FanDuel Sportsbook isn’t just a standalone app. It is available through a partnership with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA. The reputations of both companies is on the line with the FanDuel Arizona launch, further instilling confidence in the safety and security of the platform.

Legal Online Sportsbooks Already Boast Stellar Reputations

Arizona sports bettors waited a long time for the launch of legal sportsbooks. However, that comes with the advantage of knowing exactly what to expect from these operators.

Reviews around the internet will help you identify which one is the best for your style of betting and budget. And these apps have had the time to mature into intuitive, player-friendly platforms.

So while online sports betting has been a long time coming, you now have all the resources you need to make the most informed decisions.

Available In The App Store And Google Play Store

Illegal sports betting sites can’t offer an iOS app because the App Store doesn’t list illegal betting sites. Illegal sites can offer an Android app for download directly from the site, but that’s a risky endeavor. Illegal sites are a likely culprit for offering a Trojan horse app that can infect your device.

Google Play just recently started allowing legal online sports betting apps. Up until the beginning of 2021, Android users had to download the apps directly from the websites, even for legal platforms.

Accepts Major Payment Methods

You can usually deposit and withdraw using PayPal and online bank transfers at sports betting sites. These options are unlikely to come with fees, and they’re an option for both funding your account and cashing out.

Arizona sports betting apps will eventually have retail sportsbook locations as well. That normally means you can fund your online account and withdraw winnings in cash at the betting window of the retail location or partnering casino.

Pro tip: Arizona bettors should avoid using credit cards for deposits at an online sportsbook. The transaction is often considered a cash advance, which most likely has a $10 minimum fee.

Ranking Methodology: How We Found the Best Gambling Sites

When choosing your next gambling site for a little online betting action, we put together a list of the 5 most important criterias.

As all of these criterias are very crucial factors that make safe and fair online gambling possible, we asked our 136 survey participants to evaluate and rank all the gambling operators accordingly.

The online gambling site you choose should be licensed or have obtained certification. To be licensed, a gambling site must meet certain requirements including the offering of fair gameplay and securing your sensitive data. Choosing an unlicensed gambling site gives you little to no protection against unfair practices, lost money, or theft of your banking account and other personal information. Therefore, all the gambling operators without an online gambling license were excluded.

Is your preferred method of depositing funds bitcoin or PayPal? Take a look at the deposit options the gambling site offers to make sure your chosen method is supported. While you are looking at deposit options, also be sure to check out the withdrawal options. Sometimes these options are more limited or they come with a transaction delay of a few days to a week or more.

Reviews and Complaints

Much like reading the reviews before choosing a restaurant, this is an important step when selecting an online gambling site. Scouring the reviews can tell you a lot about the site, how well or poorly they treat their players, the reliability of the site operation, and much more. Are there a lot of negative reviews and complaints? Then you might want to skip this site and check out another one.

Bonus and Promotion Offers

When making that first deposit, you definitely want to check out any bonus offers. You may find that by simply using a different deposit method, or depositing a higher amount, you may net a higher bonus. You also want to watch out for the reverse and ensure what the dollar limit on a bonus is. Also, consider if there are bonuses and promotions offered after the initial deposit.

Features & Games Available

Last, but certainly not least, take a look at the games and features offered. Does the gambling site offer the games you like to play? Do they offer progressive slots, or anonymous poker play, or any other gameplay feature that you require? If the online gambling site does not have the games or features that you are looking for, then why waste your time joining?

Online Gambling Laws in the USA

Nevada was the first state to legalize gambling way back in 1931. Throughout the years many legal battles have been fought and laws are written to regulate gambling in all forms. And it is only recently that these battles and laws have reached the realm of online gambling.

The Federal Wire Act of 1961

Passed well before the invention of the internet, the Federal Wire Act limited interstate betting on sporting events. As online gambling got its start, many attempted to apply this law to gambling websites and many court battles have resulted.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIEGA)

The first law passed that put a big dent in the online casino business was the passage of UIEGA. This law didn't prohibit online gambling, instead, it took aim at the financial transactions involved. The law made it illegal to accept payments for bets or wagers from U.S. players via the internet.

The Federal Law on Sports Betting (PASPA)

PASPA was passed in 1992 and essentially made it illegal to bet on sporting events outside of betting in Nevada. Initially enacted at the behest of the professional sports leagues to protect the 'integrity of the game,' the law was later repealed in 2018 for being unconstitutional.

Delaware Legalizes Online Gambling

Delaware became the first state to legalize online gambling in 2012 with more states soon following.

Illinois, Virginia, Oregon, Colorado, Tennesee, Iowa, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, and Indiana have all legalized online sports betting while Nevada has legalized online sports betting and online poker.

The states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, and West Virginia have all legalized online sports betting, online poker, and online casinos.

The Future of Online Gambling

Several states already have legal on-site sportsbooks including New York, Arkansas, New Mexico, and others. We can likely expect bills to be introduced in these states in the near future to expand this sports betting to the online realm.

With the recent repeal of PASPA, bills have been introduced or are expected to be introduced in several states this year including California, Kentucky, and Kansas to legalize on-site sports betting.

Online Gambling Types and Games

The best gambling sites offer a range of games because they know that bored players will quickly leave their site. Many of these games are ones that you would find in a traditional casino while others you probably wouldn't.

Most Common Ways to Gamble

Slots

For slot players, online slot play will not be much different than casino slot play. From classic to modern slot games, these online versions feature the same reel-spinning actions, brand names, sounds, paylines, progressives, and often payout percentages as an actual physical slot machine.

Roulette

The major difference in online roulette play versus in-person roulette play will often be the absence of a physical dealer and a physical roulette wheel and ball. Otherwise, all of the betting actions will be the same. Online gambling sites often offer two versions of this popular game; a U.S. version and a European version.

Blackjack

Playing blackjack on a gambling website will be much like playing a video blackjack machine. The key difference is online blackjack playing maintains the interaction between players through the use of a chat feature. The betting actions will be the same as the real casino version, and by implementing a good strategy you can often experience the same level of success.

Live Casino

To give players an experience that is as close to the real thing as possible, many online gambling sites have started offering live games. Most often implemented using popular casino games such as blackjack and roulette, live game rooms offer an on-camera dealer performing live actions and interacting with the players.

Poker

There are many dedicated online poker sites that offer an array of features like an odds display and a viewable hand history that can give players an edge over traditional poker gameplay. The one downside to online poker play is the lack of being able to strategically read other players and identify their tells.

Sports Betting

Online sports betting is a growing industry that is rapidly replacing local bookies. Sports betting websites offer players the ability to bet on a wide range of sporting events, from boxing and basketball to golf and rugby. Online sportsbooks also offer a centralized resource for odds, stats, event info, sports news, and more.

Bingo

While bingo is often thought of as your Grandmother's game, online gambling has brought this game to a wider audience. Gameplay online is often much quicker than an in-person game while still offering the best of real bingo features like multi-card play and customized daubers.

Lottery

While many people will continue lining up at the gas station to pick their lucky numbers, online lottery play is available in several states and is quickly growing. Not all lottery games are offered, and only a handful of states currently let you purchase your tickets online.

Scratch Cards

Online scratch card games are similar to their physical counterparts, with straightforward rules on matching symbols/numbers to win a prize, but the prizes is where online play differs. Online gambling sites use scratch cards to offers prizes that range from deposit bonuses, to gift cards, to actual cash. The odds of winning on these scratch cards will vary from site to site.
